Club Background

Marin Juniors is a youth volleyball club sponsored by San Rafael Community Services. Established in 1983, we have a proud history of producing accomplished athletes while fostering a life-long love for volleyball in a competitive and supportive environment. We attract and develop outstanding players at all levels and our highly experienced coaching staff presents consistent and unified philosophies and teaching methods.

The lessons we teach and the experiences that club volleyball provides will stay with players for years to come. Confidence, integrity, perseverance, sportsmanship, commitment and teamwork are all principles that are introduced in the gym but extend far beyond the sport.

We are not focused on any single high school program. Marin Juniors takes great pride in the diversity of middle and high schools that both our players and coaches represent. The relationships that players build across schools are an extremely valuable part of the club volleyball experience.

Season Overview

The official start of the 2006 club season will be in October, when a series of clinics will be held. These are a great way for new players to be introduced to the coaching staff and get a feel for the training, intensity, and environment of Marin Juniors.

Tryouts will be held the first two weeks in November, and team selections will be made by the end of the month. Practices will officially begin for most teams in early January, although some teams may start pre-season conditioning and training. The season runs through early May for all teams, although optional tournaments will extend the season for most teams until June, with teams going to the national Volleyball Festival busy until July.

A minimum of two, two-hour practices will be held each week. Practices will be held at Marin Academy and other local schools. This is the time to develop players' skills and work on team unity. Participation and a season long commitment by all team members is crucial to the success of a team. See the Schedule page for a listing of tournaments.

Marin Juniors participates in the leagues governed by the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA). You can download rules, policies, and league information directly from their site. Teams compete in approximately one weekend tournament every three weeks, February through May. Some teams may elect to play in additional tournaments which can extend the season through the first week of July. Tournaments are held throughout Northern California, starting at 8AM and ending about 4PM, not counting travel time.

Some optional tournaments are two or three day tournaments, and it will be up to the individual teams which of these they attend. Club fees do not cover these additional tournaments and teams will be responsible for raising entry fees as well as travel and accommodation costs, as needed.

Marin Juniors also offers optional strength and conditioning programs and we plan to further off-court development by offering sessions on nutrition, training, mental toughness and team-dynamics.

The National Volleyball Festival will be held June 24 - June 29, 2006, in Reno. The top team in each age division should expect to play in this nationally renowned tournament. Other teams are encouraged to participate if there is sufficient interest.
