John Hedlund

Guest Coach

John Hedlund is not only an accomplished varsity high school volleyball coach, but an accomplished volleyball player - both indoor and on the beach. 

As head varsity coach at Sir Francis Drake High School for the girl's and boy's teams, John has built a solid defense and a powerful offense for the boys varsity team over the past several years - dominating MCAL Championships with 6 consecutive championship wins from 2010-2015. John was Drake High School Coach of the Year in 2011 for boys varsity program.

John was a player at USC, winning the NCAA National Championship in 1980, and runner -up in 1981. He was a NCAA First Team All-American in 1981, Second Team All-American in 1982 and was selected to the NCAA All Tournament Team in 1981. After college, John played professional volleyball throughout Italy and Germany from 1982 - 1989 as a Division I player. 

From 2003 - 2006 he competed in the beach volleyball British Tour, winning the Bournemouth Open Championship in 2003, Weymouth Open Championship in 2006 and the Weymouth Open Championships Player of the Tournament in 2002.

John is devoted to helping each player reach their highest potential and make an important contribution to the team.
