Kali Heys began coaching for Marin Juniors in 2016, and brings with her experience as the varsity high school volleyball coach and Assistant Director of Athletics at The Urban School of San Francisco.
Her love of volleyball began in middle school and she played competitively for the next 10 years. Kali played 3 years of varsity volleyball at Napa High, where she was a 2-year captain, was named MVP, and received all- MEL and all-Napa County honors.
After high school, she attended The University of Arizona and played 4 years of club volleyball, where her team competed all over the country, and finished each year in the top 10. During her college career, her team twice placed second at Nationals, and she was named to the Div. 2 all-tournament team her freshman year. After college, she took a job as the Athletic Director and 6th-8th grade PE teacher at Blue Oak School in Napa, where she also coached volleyball, basketball and track. While in Napa, Kali coached 5 seasons with Evolve Volleyball Club, taking on head coach and assistant coaching roles with their 16s and 18s power teams.
For Kali, her personal success as a player, coach, and assistant athletic director comes from her continued effort and a positive attitude. She says effort and a positive attitude are a must. "If you are willing to work hard, with a positive attitude, your growth and success will speak for itself."
favorite volleyball positions
"Setting is my favorite position during game play because you are involved in every play and get to quarterback your offense. I also enjoy playing libero/ds because I relish the challenge of keeping the ball alive and throwing my body all over the floor. And who doesn't love hitting?! Nothing gets your team pumped like a big kill!"
