Lazaro Beltran, who has more than two decades of playing and coaching experience, joins Marin Juniors as a Guest Coach in 2016.
Beltran spent 15 years as a professional volleyball player for the Cuban National Volleyball Team. During that time, he participated in numerous championship matches, and was a representative on Cuba's squad at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, where he helped guide his team to a fourth-place finish. He was named the most valuable player at the Volleyball World Cup in Japan, and was a member of all-star teams in both the Volleyball World Cup and the World Gala.
Prior to his retirement from professional volleyball, he served as a coach in Cuba's minor leagues. His selection to coach a team of juniors put his prowess on display as he led his squad to first place in their first international competition. He has coached and mentored numerous players who went on to play for the Cuban National Team.
In 1998, he accepted an appointment as the technical advisor of the Colombian Volleyball Federation. During that time, he also served as a professor at the University INCCA of Columbia. From 1999-2002, he coached senior-division male and female beach volleyball teams in the League of Bogota. In 2002, he began his work as a physical education instructor and a coach for both the high school and the University of Del La Salle in Bogota, Colombia. In 2011, Lazaro was brought on as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cal Bears.
